Discounts & Urgency editorials

The watch brand promised on Nov 3 that Black Friday wouldn't beat its deal. We logged every deadline that followed — and how the promise held.

We abandoned carts at five DTC brands. ROKA offers nothing, Liquid I.V. pays 10%, Magic Spoon sends cereal, and Cyrusher holds out for a week.

On New Year's Eve Burrow sent 'No pressure. Just a reminder' at 6:02pm, then 'BACK ON: Up to 30% off' at 6:15. The two-voice pattern, with receipts.

In 28 Quince emails, the markdown machinery points outward: "vs. traditional retail" strikethroughs, a $148 rival price tag, and not one code.

The four Cyrusher campaigns we caught in May carry no codes, no countdowns — a comparison table, a brake lesson, a fit guide, and a deep-dive.

In 37 Magic Spoon emails, the offers are free boxes and dollar-off bundles. The only percent codes have strings: a survey, or a subscription.

ROKA's one discount window in our ten-week capture: six build-up sends, a 48/24/final-hours countdown, then a $565 restock at full price.

39 Eight Sleep emails: one doubt per send, Affirm and HSA/FSA doing the price work, and deadlines living in footer fine print.

We caught 14 Quince subject-line tests in flight. Seven had byte-identical bodies, one shipped a typo, and not one varied a discount.

19 months of Burrow deadline emails: a sale back on 13 minutes after its final-hours send, expired fine print, three end dates in 48 hours.

Four months of Liquid I.V. offers: deadlines only in subject lines, a consolation deal that beats the sale, and a July 4 code still live after the holiday.

Founder-letter tease, designed drop, ICYMI on a ~47-hour clock — twice, almost to the minute. Magic Spoon's launch template, email by email.

TUSHY's 73 emails in 15 weeks: 15 discounts, all inside three sale windows. The rest is a magazine about butts. Laid out grid by grid.

Bombas's 4-email welcome flow, captured twice 21 months apart. Two subjects held verbatim, and the 20% code vanished from the first two emails.

We left a $1,499 e-bike in a Cyrusher cart. An eight-step flow in six days, a support agent who wasn't typing, and a $1,799 price that comes and goes.
